Privacy

Geography Atlas is a static reference website. We do not offer visitor accounts, accept payments, or ask you to submit personal information through the site.

Analytics

With permission, we use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how the site is found and used. GA4 may then receive information such as pages viewed, approximate location derived from an IP address, device and browser details, referring pages, and the time and manner of interactions with the site. We use this information in aggregate to improve our articles, navigation, and site performance.

For visitors detected in the United Kingdom, European Economic Area, or Switzerland, Google Analytics is blocked until the visitor accepts analytics. Visitors can reject analytics and continue using the complete website. For visitors elsewhere, analytics loads by default unless a previous rejection is stored. If regional detection fails, analytics remains blocked and the privacy choice is shown.

Advertising storage, advertising user data, advertising personalisation, and Google Signals remain disabled when analytics is enabled. Geography Atlas does not use GA4 to show personalised advertising.

If analytics is accepted or otherwise enabled, Google Analytics may set first-party cookies such as _ga and _ga_*. Geography Atlas stores the analytics choice, consent-policy version, and time saved in local browser storage for up to 180 days so the choice can be respected across pages and visits.

Regional detection and service providers

The regional check requests Cloudflare’s same-origin diagnostic endpoint and reads its two-letter country result. Geography Atlas does not store that result. Cloudflare already handles website requests as the site’s delivery and security provider.

Google processes analytics information on our behalf when analytics is enabled, and Google and Cloudflare may process information internationally under their applicable data-protection terms and transfer safeguards. Google describes its practices in Google’s Privacy Policy and explains how it uses information from sites and apps that use its services. Cloudflare describes its practices in the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.

Your choices

The Privacy settings control in the site header reopens the analytics choice. Rejecting after analytics was enabled changes the consent state, removes accessible Google Analytics cookies, and reloads the page without loading Google Analytics.

You can also limit analytics collection by blocking cookies or scripts in your browser, clearing stored site data, or using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. Browser privacy controls and content blockers may also prevent analytics requests.

Depending on where you live, privacy rights may include access, correction, deletion, restriction, or objection where personal information is held.

Server records and external links

Like most websites, our hosting infrastructure may automatically keep technical request logs for security, reliability, and troubleshooting. These can include an IP address, request time, requested page, browser information, and response status.

Our articles may link to other websites. Their privacy practices are controlled by their respective operators, and this policy does not cover those sites.
